Rocking the dinner party: Brooklyn Slate Company cheese boards

Fine china is refined and elegant. Thrift store trays are retro fun. But for sheer tabletop coolness, Brooklyn Slate Company’s slate cheese boards are hard to beat.

Quarried in upstate New York and hand finished in a small studio in Brooklyn, they’re durable, sustainable and ruggedly handsome. You can write on them with the provided soapstone chalk, so your guests can tell the Abondance from the Wensleydale. And unlike your Royal Limoges, you can toss this cheese board in the dishwasher after the party.

Just as exciting for me as finding a cool new toy for the kitchen is finding it at a cool place like Brooklyn Slate Company. After ordering a cheese board from their website, I had a question about shipping and gave them a call. One of the founders, Kristy Hadeka, answered the call and my questions. She answered my follow-up call too and was friendly and helpful both times, making me glad I’d done business with them.

So how did a fashion design student and a graphic designer get started in the slate business? You’ll find that story as well as other slate products they make and a link to the Brooklyn Slate Company website in my latest post on the USA Character Approved Blog.
